The 2nd Annual High School Showcase was held Tuesday, December 4th at the Advanced Technology College and Thursday, December 6th at the Volusia County Fairgrounds. All nine high schools, as well as Schools of Choice and District Programs, were on hand to assist students and families in making important high school school of choice decisions. Additionally, Volusia County Schools was recognized by the Ford Motor Company Fund as a Career Academy Innovation Community at the leadership level and awarded $30,000.

Approximately 3,500 parents and students were in attendance at the December 4th event and 2,400 students and parents at the December 6th event, for a total of about 7,000 participants. This represents a 35% increase
in attendance from the 07-08 showcase event. The target audience included all 8th grade students; however, all middle school students were invited and encouraged to attend.
For the 2008-09 school year, Volusia County Schools has 31 career academies integrated into four high schools in west Volusia and five high schools in east Volusia. Currently, 2,300 students are enrolled in Volusia career academies. This is an increase of over 1000 students from the 07-08 projections.
